The Precious Lotus Lantern is the treasure of the goddess Sanshengmu, who was sealed beneath Mount Hua for marrying a mortal. When her son Chenxiang grows up, he searches for the lantern and the axe that can split the mountain; with the lamp’s light to guide him and the axe’s edge to cut the rock, he frees his mother. The story turns filial love into a force that even divine punishment cannot withstand.
