The purple-gold gourd is one of Lord Lao’s vessels for storing elixir, stolen to earth by the gold-horn and silver-horn demons. Whoever answers when its owner calls their name is sucked inside and dissolved within an hour. Sun Wukong escapes by answering with false names, then turns the gourd’s own rule against the demons who carry it.
