Boyi

Ancestor of the Ying Clan

Minister who aided Yu in flood control, dug wells, tamed animals, and founded the Ying clan.

Boyi assisted Yu in taming the flood and served Shun as the officer of birds and beasts, taming animals and digging wells. When Yu died, the people turned to Yu’s son Qi rather than to Boyi, and Boyi withdrew in peace — remembered ever after as the ancestor of the Ying clan from which the Qin and Zhao houses descended. His name joins flood control, animal husbandry and the founding of dynasties.
