Goumang
God of Spring
Bird-bodied god of spring and the east who rode dragons and was honored at the Start of Spring.
Goumang is the god of spring and the eastern wood. As the son of Shaohao he appears with a bird’s body and a human face, riding two dragons, and opens the season of growth. From the Han period onward the court welcomed spring by honoring Goumang at the Start of Spring, a ritual that reached into every county.
