Kuafu
The Sun Chaser
A giant who raced the sun in a doomed pursuit. Dying of thirst, he cast away his staff, which became a peach forest.
The Shanhaijing records: "Kuafu raced with the sun and caught its shadow; parched with thirst he drank the Yellow River and the Wei, and still not satisfied, set out for the Great Lake but died of thirst on the way. His discarded staff became the Deng Forest." His relentless chase symbolizes the indomitable human spirit.
