Paragon of filial virtue who farmed at Mount Li and received the throne from Yao by abdication.

Emperor Shun, the ruler of Yu, is the Chinese archetype of filial virtue raised to the throne. Despite a cruel father, a scheming stepmother and an arrogant brother, Shun repaid resentment with kindness until his family was transformed. Yao tested him through hardship and gave him both daughters in marriage, then abdicated in his favor.
