Legendary Flame Emperor associated with Shennong, credited with agriculture and herbal medicine.

Yandi, the Flame Emperor, is the legendary ruler of the Jiang clan often merged with the herbal god Shennong. He taught the people agriculture, pottery and herbal medicine, and was thus honored as a founding father of farming and healing. After his battle with the Yellow Emperor at Banquan, the two peoples united, and “descendants of Yan and Huang” became the ancestral phrase for the Chinese people.
