Fuzhu is the white deer of Ao’an Mountain in the central Shanhaijing, bearing four horns. Its appearance is an omen: the town that sees it will suffer a great flood. The pale beast of the high marsh carries water upon its antlers, turning a graceful deer into a warning of disaster.
