The Oath Bird

The transformed spirit of the Yan Emperor's daughter Nüwa who drowned in the East Sea; forever carrying twigs and stones to fill it.

The Shanhaijing says that on Fajiu Mountain lives a bird "shaped like a crow, with a patterned head, white beak and red feet, crying its own name — Jingwei. It is the youngest daughter of the Yan Emperor, Nüwa, who drowned while playing in the East Sea and became this bird, forever carrying wood and stones from the Western Mountains to fill the sea."
