Nine-Headed Bird

Night-flying nine-headed bird of ill omen, kin of the Shanhaijing’s Jiufeng.

The nine-headed bird, also called Ghost Car, flies by night and was feared as an omen of misfortune. Some say a dog once bit off one of its heads, so its dripping blood brings disaster to any house it crosses. Behind the folk demon stands the ancient nine-headed goddess Jiufeng of the Shanhaijing.
