Xiezhi

Unicorn of Justice

One-horned goat that butts the guilty, emblem of judges and law.

Xiezhi is the one-horned divine goat that can tell right from wrong: when people quarrel, it butts the guilty party with its single horn. The sage minister Gaoyao is said to have used it in judgment, and later law officers took its image for their caps and emblems. Justice in China has worn the face of this beast ever since.
