In the Kingdom of Chechi, three demon priests — tiger, deer and goat — hold the realm in thrall, forcing monks into slavery. The pilgrims accept their challenge and contest rain-making, meditation on high ladders, guessing hidden objects, beheading and disembowelment. Wukong defeats each trick, the demons reveal their animal forms and the king finally sees the truth.
