Sun Wukong’s Rebellion

The stone monkey steals peaches and elixir, routs heaven’s armies, and is pinned under a mountain.

Sun Wukong, unsatisfied with his post as keeper of the heavenly stables, declares himself Great Sage Equal to Heaven. Invited to the Peach Banquet but deliberately excluded, he steals the peaches, the elixir and the queen mother’s wine, then fights the entire heavenly host to a standstill. Only the Buddha can stop him — by betting that he cannot leap from the Buddha’s palm, a wager that ends with Wukong pinned beneath Five Elements Mountain.
