Shooting Down the Suns

When ten suns scorched the earth, Houyi shot down nine and slew the monsters Zaochi and Jiuying.

When ten suns rose together and scorched the fields, the divine archer Houyi shot down nine of them with arrows strung on a mighty bow. He then turned his bow against the monsters of the age: the chisel-toothed Zaochi, the nine-headed Jiuying, the wind-bird Dafeng, the serpent Xiushe and the boar Fengxi. Every scourge fell to his arrows, and the world returned to its proper order.
