The Fire Drill Sage

The sage Suiren taught early humans to drill wood for fire and cook food, founding cooked cuisine.

Before Suiren, the people ate raw flesh and fruit and suffered from sickness; no one knew how to make fire. A sage observed the stars and the woodpecker’s spark, and taught the world to drill wood for flame. Cooked food, warm nights and new tools followed, and the people made him their king — Suiren, the Fire-Driller, first of the Three Sovereigns in the order of civilization.
